Information about the Author of The Primate Puzzle

The Author, Oliver Renier Nash was born in Shrewsbury, 1977. He was educated at King Edward VI Grammar School, in Chelmsford, following a childhood disrupted by treatment for cancer. After working for a number of finance companies, he decided to indulge his love of films by managing a video shop. He then travelled extensively throughout South East Asia, New Zealand and Australia. His interest in the environment led him to the rainforests of Borneo.

This adventure story started as an animal tale to amuse a friend’s daughter. However, the ecological difficulties faced by the region, including the loss of rainforest to palm oil plantations, prompted Oliver to expand the story to provide an entertaining way to inform children about these issues.

He also hopes the book will raise funds for the hospital (Great Ormond Street Hospital for Sick Children) that has helped him since childhood. He dreams of his book finding a place in libraries, schools and children’s hospitals across the country. He would like to inspire children to be proactive about the environment so that they too might some day have the pleasure and privilege of seeing proboscis monkeys, Komodo dragons and other endangered animals in their natural habitat.

Currently he is volunteering for the Charity, KeyRing (www.keyring.org), helping to support adults with learning disabilities to live independently. He is also a personal assistant helping a young adult to learn skills such as managing his money, cooking etc. He is about to study (part-time) for his NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care at Barking College for the next year.

Great Ormond Street Hospital opened its doors on 14th February 1852, with just 10 beds, 2 wards & 20 staff. Today, we have 353 beds, 38 wards & nearly 3000 staff, treating children from throughout the UK and world for a wide range of conditions. Although the basic running costs of the hospital are met by the NHS, the charity needs to raise over £50 million each year to fund, the latest specialist equipment, medical research, redevelopment and family accommodation. We want to ensure the hospital remains a world class specialist paediatric hospital, giving new hope to children suffering from complex and life-threatening conditions
